Middle School Research Skills

Welcome

Welcome to the middle school research skills website. This website is designed for teachers  and students to develop research skills for middle school, (secondary students) in years 8-9. The main aim is  for  scaffolding and development of research skills in students.

The following information is relevant to teachers in particular:

The activities on here may be modfied to suit the teacher and class depending on the year level, class, subject area and skills and abilities of students. These activities are designed for students who visit the library with their teacher and the ideal combination is the teacher and class working with the teacher-librarian. The material has therefore been selected to be used in a cross curricular manner and to suit most subject areas.

With the advent of the new research project in the new SACE it is vital and in fact our responsibility as teacher-librarians and teachers, to prepare students with research skills in the middle school. Hopefuly then students outcomes will be successful in the research project. It should be noted that this website is a starting point and student development of research skills needs to occur regularly and be ongoing.

Why are there pictures such as flickr, utube, games etc on these pages? They are for inspiration for teachers when designing tasks as students really are digital natives and they engage with these web 2.0 tools. They can be starting point or to break up tasks for students or an end point when students have finished their work.
